What is FAQ schema?
FAQPage is the schema.org type for a page of frequently asked questions, each with one answer written by you. In JSON-LD it's a list of Question items, each with an acceptedAnswer.
It suits support pages, service pages with an FAQ block and product pages with fixed questions. For pages where visitors post questions and several people answer, schema.org has a different type, QAPage.
Does Google show a rich result for FAQ?
Google stopped showing FAQ rich results on 7 May 2026, so FAQPage markup no longer earns expandable questions in Search; it still describes your questions and answers to search engines and AI systems. Google's announcement.
Worked example: FAQ JSON-LD
A plumbing company's service page has two questions in an FAQ block. These answers go into the form:
- 2 questions with answers
The generator outputs:
<script type="application/ld+json">
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "FAQPage",
"mainEntity": [
{
"@type": "Question",
"name": "How long does a boiler service take?",
"acceptedAnswer": {
"@type": "Answer",
"text": "Most boiler services take 45 to 60 minutes, including a safety check and a written report."
}
},
{
"@type": "Question",
"name": "Do you cover Salford and Trafford?",
"acceptedAnswer": {
"@type": "Answer",
"text": "Yes. We cover Manchester, Salford, Trafford and Stockport with no call-out charge."
}
}
]
}
</script>FAQ properties: required and recommended
- Required: Questions and answers
- Recommended: none

How to add FAQ schema to your site
- Use the same wording as the questions and answers visible on the page.
- Paste the script tag into the page's <head> or just before </body>.
- Check it in the Schema Markup Validator; the Rich Results Test no longer reports FAQ rich results.
- Write answers people actually need: that's what AI answers quote. Our AI answer FAQ optimisation service builds these blocks for you.

FAQ questions
No. Google deprecated the FAQ rich result in May 2026 and it no longer appears in Google Search from 7 May 2026. Before that it had been limited to well-known government and health sites since 2023.
It's cheap to add and still describes your questions and answers in a structured way that search engines and AI systems can read. Just don't expect expandable FAQ snippets in Google any more.
No. FAQPage is for questions with a single answer written by you. Pages where users ask and several people answer match schema.org's QAPage type instead.
Yes. Structured data should describe content visitors can see. Mark up the questions and answers exactly as they appear on that page.
Only add FAQPage markup to pages that show those questions. Repeating one sitewide FAQ block in the markup of unrelated pages describes content that isn't there.
